GOD'S WORD

"Rise Up with the Angel of the Lord –
Because When You Do, You Can Experience True Freedom!"

December 6, 2023

Good morning! I want to start off with a story to illustrate a point. A girl was walking down the street carrying a heavy suitcase. When a kind passerby asked her why she was carrying such a heavy load, she explained that she was carrying the negative thoughts and emotions that she had been carrying around for years. She said it was so heavy that it was causing her to sink into the ground.

That’s how it can feel when we are struggling with life’s difficulties. We can feel like we are sinking and can’t get out. But today, I want to talk about how the angle of the Lord can free us from this feeling of being stuck and give us hope.

The Bible teaches us this in the story of Peter. He was in prison, shackled and chained by his captors, and he was in desperate need of a miracle if he was going to be delivered from his captors. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared in his prison cell and freed him from his chains.

This is an incredible story and I believe it has three key lessons for us today:

First, no matter how desperate or hopeless our situation may seem, the angle of the Lord can work miracles in our lives. Just as the angel of the Lord freed Peter from his chains, we can trust that God will work in our lives as well. We may not see it right away, but through faith and patience, we can trust that God is working on our behalf.

Second, we must have faith even in the darkest times. When Peter was in prison, he had no idea that he would be freed. He had to trust that God would deliver him, and that’s exactly what happened. We too must have faith that God will deliver us from our troubles, no matter how dark things may seem.

Finally, we must remember that even in the face of destruction, God is still in control. No matter how bad things may seem, we must have faith that God is working all things together for good, as Romans 8:28 in the KJV says: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” We must trust in Him and His plan for us.

Once the angel of the Lord had freed Peter from his chains, he didn’t just sit there in his cell waiting for something to happen. He had to take action and follow the angel’s instructions if he was going to be freed. In the same way, we must take action in our lives if we are going to be freed from our struggles and find hope.

So today I encourage you to remember that no matter how desperate or hopeless your situation may seem, the angle of the Lord can work miracles in your life. Have faith even in the darkest times and take action as the Lord leads you - and you too will find freedom. As Proverbs 3:5-6 says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

It’s time to leave the baggage of your troubles behind and rise up with the angel of the Lord – because when you do, you can experience true freedom!
