My beloved Brothers and Sisters, today I would like to share with you a story a friend of mine's grandmother shared with him, when he was just a young boy. He told me that she used to tell him about an old log cabin in the mountains that she and his grandfather lived in when they were first married. They were so poor that they didn’t have money to buy nails, so they bound the logs together with seven green withs. But then one morning, his grandfather woke up to find that the withs had been replaced with seven locks tied to a beam. Every day he had to unlock each one in order to start his work.
His grandmother told him that story as a reminder that our lives are bound by the choices, we make every day. We’re the ones that choose how we respond to challenges and obstacles. In the same way, God has given us the freedom to choose how we live our lives. In Proverbs 16:9 the Bible
says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” God has given us the power to make our own choices, but ultimately, He is the one who directs our steps.
God has also given us the strength to endure whatever life throws our way. The Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 12:10, “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” Paul was willing to endure whatever hardships came his way because he knew that God was with him and would give him strength to carry on.
Finally, my beloved Brothers and Sisters, God has given us the courage to take risks and try new things. In Joshua 1:9 we read, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” God is always with us, and He will give us courage to tackle any challenge.
So today I want to encourage you to unlock each of those seven locks that are binding you. Step out in faith and take a risk! With God’s help, you can unlock the chains of fear and doubt and be free to live a life of courage and strength. Let us pray.
My beloved Brothers and Sisters, unlocking those seven locks is the key to living a life of freedom and joy. So be strong and courageous - and take a risk!
