GOD'S WORD

"For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world".

"Sir," they said, "always give us this bread". Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life."

- John 6:33-35 KJV

 A Loaf of Bread

December 20, 2023

Good morning Beloved Brothers and Sisters,

I want to tell you a story about a father and his son. The father was a baker, and he made the most delicious bread. His son was the apple of his eye and he was always looking for ways to make his son happy. One day, he decided to give his son an extra special treat and he baked a beautiful loaf of bread. He proudly presented it to his son who was delighted.

But this loaf of bread was special. It was made with love. It wasn't just any ordinary bread. This bread was made with care and thought. It had more than just flour and water. It had the father's tender care and thoughtful ingredients.

This morning, I want to talk to you about the power of a loaf of bread. I want to share with you three key ideas about how this simple treat can make a difference in our lives:

1. A loaf of bread is a symbol of faith. In the Bible, Jesus said: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.” (John 6:51). This living bread is a symbol of faith and trust in God. We trust that God will provide for us, just as the father provided his son with a loaf of bread.

2. A loaf of bread is a symbol of love. In Matthew 15:36, Jesus said: “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with me three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.” Jesus showed us that love is not just about saying the right words, but it’s about providing for others in tangible ways. A loaf of bread is an expression of love and compassion.

3. A loaf of bread is a symbol of hope. In Deuteronomy 8:3, it says: “And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.” A loaf of bread is a reminder that there is hope in times of struggle. We can trust God to provide for us and sustain us even in our darkest moments.

Brothers and Sisters, this morning I want to remind you that a loaf of bread is so much more than just a simple treat. It’s a reminder of faith, love, and hope. Let us never forget that God provides us with all we need - even if it's just a simple loaf of bread. As we go forth today, let us remember that a little bit of faith, love, and hope can go a long way - just like a loaf of bread.

A loaf of bread is more than just food for our bodies - it's food for our souls.
