GOD'S WORD

28 And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me

these three times? 29 And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for

now would I kill thee. 30 And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine

unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, Nay.

The Power of God and the Donkey

December 21, 2023

Good morning, Brothers and Sisters! I’ve got a powerful story to share with you this morning. When I was a young boy, my friend Kenny whose grandfather used to take us to their family’s farm. On the farm, he had some of the most amazing animals I’d ever seen. He had horses, cows, pigs, and of course, donkeys. Now, although donkeys can be stubborn and difficult to manage, his grandfather was a master of the art. One day, I asked him how he got them to do his bidding. With a twinkle in his eye, he said “I just give them love and lead them with faith.”

This story brings to today’s devotional about the power of God and the donkey. It’s an analogy about how God leads us through life. Just like a donkey, our journey in life can be filled with challenges and obstacles. But with faith and trust in God, we can overcome these obstacles and find our way.

The first key idea is to trust in the Lord. As the Bible says in Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Just like Kenny's grandfather led the donkeys with faith, so too can we trust in God to lead us through life’s struggles.

The second key idea is to be patient with God’s plan. We can’t always predict when or how God will lead us out of our struggles, but we must remain patient and steadfast in our faith. As Hebrews 6:12 says “Be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” Just as Kenny's grandfather was patient with the donkeys, so too must we be patient with God’s plan for our lives.

The third key idea is to take action. We can’t rely on faith alone; we must take action to realize our dreams. As James 2:17 says “Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” Just like Kenny's grandfather took action to lead the donkeys, we must take action to realize our dreams and live God’s plan for us.

Brothers and Sisters this morning, I encourage you to trust in the Lord, be patient with God’s plan, and take action to realize your dreams. With faith and trust in God, you can help lead your own life’s journey like a donkey follows its master. So let us go forth today with faith and trust in the Lord! Amen.
