God's Word

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:17

Let us work with grace in our hearts and joy in our souls!

October 16, 2023

Once upon a time, a young man was given the task of mowing a large lawn. He thought it was an easy job, so he took his time and mowed slowly, taking lots of breaks to chat with his friends. Eventually, the day ended, and the young man was proud of what he had done.

But when his master inspected the job, he was disappointed. The lines were crooked, the grass was unevenly cut, and there were patches that had been missed entirely. His master scolded him for not taking his job seriously.

My brothers and sisters, this story is a metaphor for how we should approach our work. As the Bible tells us in Colossians 3:22-24, "Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for human masters."

We must understand that our work is an expression of our faith in God. It is not simply for our master's but for God Himself. We must strive to be the best employees possible and fulfill our tasks with excellence. We must do our work with diligence and respect for authority.

We must also remember that our masters are human beings with their own problems and struggles. We should strive to be kind to them, even when they are hard on us. We should be patient and generous with them. As Ephesians 6:7-8 says, “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do.”

Finally, we should be conscientious when it comes to our work. We should strive to be honest and do our best to achieve our goals. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 12:11, “Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense.”

So, brothers and sisters, let us be faithful employees, working with all our hearts as if we were working for the Lord Himself. Let us remember that our work is an expression of our faith and strive to do it with excellence and respect for authority. Let us be conscientious and honest in all that we do. In short, let us work with grace in our hearts and joy in our souls!
