"Never underestimate the power of love and words of endearment

October 25, 2023

Good morning to all my brothers and sisters in Christ! Before I start my devotional this morning, I want to share a story with you. Some of you may have heard this one before. A young man was walking along a beach filled with thousands of starfish that had washed up onshore. He noticed an old man picking up starfish one by one and throwing them back into the sea. The young man asked the old man why he was doing this. The old man replied, “I am saving them from the shoreline so they can live.” The young man asked, “But there are so many, what difference can you make?” The old man smiled and said, “It makes a difference to this one.”

Today’s devotional is about the power of love and words of endearment. We all know that love is one of the most powerful forces in the world, and it is something that we should strive for in our lives. But how can we express our love and show our affection for those around us? That is where words of endearment come into play.

First, let’s look at what the Bible says about words of endearment. In Proverbs 16:24, it says, “Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” This verse tells us that words of endearment can bring sweetness and health to our relationships. They can lift our spirits and bring us joy.

Second, let’s consider how using words of endearment can help us in our relationships. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, we are told that “love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” When we use words of endearment to express our love to others, we demonstrate patience, kindness, trust, and hope.

Finally, let’s talk about how we can use words of endearment to strengthen our relationships. We should strive to use words that uplift and encourage others. We should also be mindful of our tone when speaking to others. Our words should be filled with love and kindness and be spoken with respect. We should also make sure that our words are genuine and sincere.

As I conclude today’s devotional, I will leave you with this thought: Words of endearment are like a bridge connecting two hearts – they can build bridges between broken relationships and help us find common ground. So let us never underestimate the power of love and words of endearment – they can make a difference to this one.
